Norwich Union Healthcare works with a number of different organisations to provide effective and relevant health and protection solutions. The following is an example of a company we recently worked with.
Whilst the company name has been changed, the details and figures used are based on an actual company and the work we carried out.
ABC Ltd works in an industry where managing and looking after the health of its employees is vital to their success. In fulfilling this objective ABC Ltd made the decision to work with Norwich Union to ensure that the correct mix of occupational health services was in place without compromising investment that would be better spent elsewhere to optimise the service it is providing.
After consulting Norwich Union’s Occupational Health team, ABC Ltd believed there was opportunity to ensure continued optimal performance throughout the contract by implementing occupational health services to:
The first step was for Norwich Union to review the health & safety services, processes, procedures that were already in place and to identify any gaps that could potentially leave it exposed to risk of unnecessary costs and performance issues relating to absence.
Helping ABC Ltd to capitalise on its existing Health & Safety Strategy, Norwich Union recommended ways to stretch the benefits of investments it had already made and how additional services provided by Norwich Union could complement these.
Through the work carried out by Norwich Union, together with ABC Ltd, the number of absence instances has decreased significantly between 2006 and 2007. The amount of time that each employee is absent from work has also decreased.
| Average time lost per absence (days) | 2006 | 2007 |
|---|---|---|
| January | 7 | 6 |
| February | 9 | 5 |
| March | 6 | 6 |
| April | 7 | 6 |
| May | 10 | 5 |
| June | 8 | 4 |
In March 2006 ABC Ltd had 227 absence instances, compared to 201 in 2007. This, coupled with the decrease in the time each employee spends away from work means that in March 2007 ABC Ltd lost 804 days’ work to employee absence, compared to 1,816 in March 2006, a 44% decrease.
